Tot School: Green Week Full Preschool Lesson Plan

March 24, 2018 Mallorie Owens
Tot School: Green Week Lesson Plan | MALLORIE OWENS

St. Patrick's Day may be over, but you can still do Green Week with your tot! I plan to do it over again once we've gone through all of the colors, so I wanted to note what my plan was, what Iris loved/what worked, and what we pretty much skipped this time around.

I used to be a preschool teacher, so lesson planning makes me giddy! My layout was to plan a green snack, activity, and book for each day. Some days we did multiple activities and books that went with the theme, and some days we just pointed out green things as we went about our day and skipped the planned activities. Iris is only 18 months, so I don't want this to be extremely strict or rigid, just something to include some planned learning in her day.

Shamrock Canvas St. Patrick's Day Toddler Activity for Name Recognition | MALLORIE OWENS

Here was the plan for our week...

Monday

  • Snack: green bell pepper and hummus

  • Activity: color and put together green book and color other green toddler worksheets (we LOVE these Honey Sticks for coloring!)

  • Read: Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss

Tuesday

  • Snack: avocado and crackers

  • Activity: green toys in rice sensory bin (I just used a shallow plastic chip bowl and I plan to get Iris some of these motor skills toys to grab the rice. For the green toys, I just gathered toys she already had, you'd be surprised how many you can find of each color!)

  • Read: Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile

Wednesday

  • Snack: cucumber and hummus

  • Activity: nature walk and collect/point out green things we see

  • Read: Green as a Bean and Night Night Little Green Monster

Thursday

  • Snack: artichoke and spinach dip

  • Activity: canvas with shamrock cut outs and glitter (shamrocks had IRIS, one letter on each cutout, for name recognition)

  • Read: Lizette's Green Sock

Friday

  • Snack: broccoli pesto mac and cheese

  • Activity: rainbow rice sensory bin full of toys of every color, practice picking out the color green

  • Read: What Makes a Rainbow

Iris' Favorites...

Favorite books about the color green: Night Night Little Green Monster and Lizette's Green Sock, she also has always loved What Makes a Rainbow.

Favorite green activities: coloring the green worksheet and adding stickers, the sensory bin full of rice and toys. The sensory bin keeps her entertained for at least 15 minutes or longer, which is big for our busy little bee.

Favorite green snacks: artichoke and spinach dip, avocado.

What we skipped...

We didn't do the nature walk (it rained that day) and we did the canvas with shamrock cutouts on Monday so she could see it hanging with her name on it all week. We didn't do an activity Thursday because we were out most of the day. We did the sensory bin more than once though because she loved it so much and she looked through the green book she made every day.
