Since one of my favorite things about the day is getting to watch lots of scary movies, I thought I'd talk about my love for them today and share a few of my favorites that are available on Netflix Instant and Amazon Prime!
I was one of those kids that was never freaked out by scary movies. My Dad and I loved having horror movie marathons on the weekends, whether it was close to Halloween or not. We would go through whole series of horror flicks in one night, mostly the classics, munching on our pizza and assorted candy. Just one of our fun father-daughter things, that were always so much fun!
Going to bed after the movie was always a different story. Once the quiet set in and I was in my room alone in the basement that’s when the fear hit me. I would hear every creak of the house and moan of the wind and I would start to imagine all the terrible things that could be happening inside or directly outside of our house. But I always went back, no matter how terrified I got once the movies were over. I loved watching them, and still do.
Dave and I have had a hard time finding good ones in years past, because Netflix didn't have many to choose from and they don't have a Halloween genre (WHY won't they make holiday sections?!). I've been watching a bunch this month, so I thought I'd make a list to make it easier on anyone else wanting to have a scary movie marathon for Halloween. There are obviously a lot more of scary movies that come before these on my favorites list, but for those who have no cable (or even redbox) to have a billion choices at your fingertips, I thought this list might help...
Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal ≫≫ This is up there as one of my all-time favorite scary movies, right behind Halloween (there are a few of the random sequals on streaming, but not the original...sigh) and The Strangers. It's obviously a classic, and one I can watch over and over. It's on Netflix, along with the sequal Hannibal. Both are a must-see if you haven't seen them before!
Carrie ≫≫ Another classic. They have the original, sequal (on Netflix, skip it), and the new Carrie on Netflix and Amazon Prime. I usually watch the original, but I'm excited to try the new Carrie with Chloë Grace Moretz tonight, love her!
Scream 1, 2, and 3 ≫≫ They have the first three on Netflix Instant and Amazon Prime. Super cheesy, but a good who-done-it and I love that they make fun of all the scary movie cliches.
Blair Witch Project ≫≫ Also super cheesy, but since I haven't seen this one in foreverrrr, so if I have time, I thought I might throw it in the mix today. They're celebrating the 15 year anniversary this year, so I think it's the perfect time to pull it back out (or stream on Netflix/Amazon). Plus, who doesn't love a movie with angles that let us see the boogies coming out of freaked out teenagers noses? I think I've made my case.
The Nightmare Before Christmas ≫≫ Some years I like to watch this one on Halloween and some years I watch it closer to Christmas, it kind of works for both. Either way, one of my all-time favorite movies and I'm so glad Netflix finally added it to instant!
Are there any that I'm missing? What's your favorite scary movie?
